The Bounds Green Singing Class
with Maggy Burrowes

28th November 2004, 1pm - 6pm
at Bounds Green N22
(Zone 3 on The Piccadilly Line Eastwards,
then 10 minutes walk).

Would you like to learn more about singing, but can't easily justify paying for private lessons, or find the time to commit yourself to a weekly class? Many of us need regular encouragement in order to develop the kind of practise regime that actually makes a difference to singing ability.

In order to make the classes as accessible as possible, they will focus on particular themes - usually overlapping - so you can attend the classes in any order that suits your diary. Training the voice requires the same kind of persistence as any other instrument, so each of the classes will include practise notes to help you develop your vocal skills to the level you desire, whether you want to sing for pleasure or profit. They will build towards a series of performance masterclasses with a live musician.

My singing method is based on the most up-to-date information about how the voice works that is available; 20 years experience singing pop, rock and jazz live; and 16 years of teaching voice at all levels. I have studied Voicecraft with both Jo Estill and Alison Bagnall; Dance, Chi Gung and Tai Chi; and I am a qualified Feldenkrais Teacher. (For a full CV, please download a Word doc or PDF file.)

I believe that there few pleasures greater than the joy of singing, so do come along and rediscover that pleasure for yourself. There will be no pressure to do anything that triggers performance nerves until you are ready to face them, but you will find that a small, friendly group of fellow students is an ideal place to start to conquer those nerves.

Class 2: Vocal Stamina, and Vocal Power part 2

The second class in the series will show you how to adjust your laryngeal muscles in order to maintain a healthy and happy singing voice - with the added benefit of increasing your range. We will then go on to explore how to coordinate this way of 'opening the throat' with the kind of internal muscle control that gives you direct access to easy and flexible volume.

We will touch on the requirements for the powerful 'Belting' vocal quality, as preparation for a class specifically devoted to this useful quality in the future, but it is not practical or safe to cover all aspects of Belting in one session. Unless you are already very experienced it will be necessary to attend this class before attending the Belting class.

The day will include two 30 minute breaks. The fee includes notes to make it easy for you to continue practising at home, and to minimise the need for note-taking during the class.

Student Comment:
"I was so relieved when I came to you for classes that finally someone was able to explain to me what I was doing with my voice, and that the way to resolve the problem was actually simple. Even if I still fall into my old habits sometimes, as least I know how I'm doing it!"
Georgie Steele, performer.

£35.00 (£30.00 concs.)
