The Feldenkrais Method® is a powerful tool
for relieving pain and making beneficial changes to posture, movement
and stress levels. Now this unique process can be available in your
workplace, right where you and your colleagues need it the most.
It is the ideal approach to Repetitive Strain Injury, Sciatica,
and work-related back and neck pain.
The aim of the Feldenkrais Method®, in the words of its founder,
is “to make the impossible possible, the difficult easy, and
the easy elegant”, through the simple process of improving
posture and helping the individual discover a new, more efficient,
more flexible way of moving and being. It is the ideal tool for
tackling physical problems that develop at work. It offers a decrease
in pain and muscle tension in the short term, with the possibility
of permanent relief from severe conditions with regular sessions.
Functional Integration - The Individual Solution
The beauty of this work is that it can be done effectively almost
anywhere, including lying on the floor, sitting on a chair, or sitting
with head resting on desk, etc. All that is needed is a small private
space, free from distractions.
N.B. It is important to note that, however enjoyable, this is a
learning process and consequently permanent changes require greater
levels of commitment from the client, depending on the severity
of the underlying problem.
Awareness Through Movement - The Group Solution
I can also teach group sessions where there is a suitable space
available. Awareness Through Movement lessons offer the
same benefits as the private Functional Integration sessions. All
that is needed is a pleasant space for a group of people to either
lie on the floor, or sit in chairs. Group work in sitting is ideal
for tackling the kinds of physical problems that people develop
in the modern office environment. This work is both powerful, and
fun to do, and group classes can maximise the benefits for everyone.
"I worked as a subtitler for ITN which meant that I had
periods of very fast, intense keyboard work, interspersed with downtime.
I would suffer regular bouts of Repetitive Strain Injury as an occupational
hazard. I went to the company physiotherapist who was sympathetic,
but who could offer me little in terms of short-term relief or long-term
healing. Osteopathy helped to take away the pain, but what Feldenkrais
gave me was a far greater understanding of how to prevent the pain
in the first place. Private Feldenkrais sessions helped me learn
how to take care of myself and look after my posture while working,
as well as providing me with exercises to tackle both the pain,
and the underlying problems, if R.S.I. reoccurred.
I now work at the Cabinet office, and occasionally feel twinges
of the old pain, but as soon as I feel those twinges I go straight
back to my exercises. knowing I can deal with the problem myself
means I just don’t have to worry about it anymore."
